Discussion of ‘ Modern Statistics for Spatial Point Processes ’
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper ‘Modern statistics for spatial point processes’ by Jesper Møller and Rasmus P. Waagepetersen is based on a special invited lecture given by the authors at the 21st Nordic Conference on Mathematical Statistics, held at Rebild, Denmark, in June 2006. At the conference, Antti Penttinen and Eva B. Vedel Jensen were invited to discuss the paper. We here present the comments from the two invited discussants and from a number of other scholars, as well as the authors’ responses to these comments. Below Figure 1, Figure 2, etc., refer to figures in the paper under discussion, while Figure A, Figure B, etc., refer to figures in the current discussion. All numbered sections and formulas refer to the paper.

TESTING FOR “RANDOMNESS” IN SPATIAL POINT PATTERNS, USING TEST STATISTICS BASED ON ONE-DIMENSIONAL INTER-EVENT DISTANCES
To test for “randomness” in spatial point patterns, we propose two test statistics that are obtained by “reducing” two-dimensional point patterns to the one-dimensional one. Also the exact and asymptotic distribution of these statistics are drawn.
متن کاملSpatial statistics for lattice points on the sphere I: Individual results
We study the spatial distribution of point sets on the sphere obtained from the representation of a large integer as a sum of three integer squares. We examine several statistics of these point sets, such as the electrostatic potential, Ripley's function, the variance of the number of points in random spherical caps, and the covering radius. Some of the results are conditional on t...
متن کاملProperties of Spatial Cox Process Models
Probabilistic properties of Cox processes of relevance for statistical modeling and inference are studied. Particularly, we study the most important classes of Cox processes, including log Gaussian Cox processes, shot noise Cox processes, and permanent Cox processes. We consider moment properties and point process operations such as thinning, displacements, and superpositioning. We also discuss...
متن کاملMarkov Chain Monte Carlo and Spatial Point Processes
Currently, Markov chain Monte Carlo methods attract much attention among statisticians, cf. e.g. Smith and Roberts (1993), Besag and Green (1993), Besag et al. (1994), Tierney (1994) and the accompaning discussions and references. The genesis of most ideas lies in statistical physics following the early work by Metropolis et al. (1953). In that paper the first Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm...
متن کاملModern statistics for spatial point processes
We summarize and discuss the current state of spatial point process theory and directions for future research, making an analogy with generalized linear models and random effect models, and illustrating the theory with various examples of applications. In particular, we consider Poisson, Gibbs, and Cox process models, diagnostic tools and model checking, Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms, com...
